sorry for being an ass though, i just thought it funny that you said there was no math.. like i said i knew about the maths behind it

i just can't wrap my head around it... unless you know the game doesn't go to the second step if you guess right on the first step!

I said there was no math in my explanation.

I assumed you would know what 'three equally likely possibilities' and 'two is twice as much as one' meant without doing the math involved. Most people wouldn't really count that as being math.

I still don't think you understand what's really going on here. It doesn't matter which door you pick, one door will always be eliminated. Because the door is eliminated based on both the location of the prize and the door you pick, you are receiving statistical information on where the prize is likely to be in relation to your pick. If those things weren't both true you would be right, there would be a 50-50 shot. Those things are both given in the problem though. (Actually, maybe that is the problem. This started from a silly comment Foodlord made, he didn't explain the problem he was referring to at first. Maybe that wasn't ever made clear.)

That is because you are a fucking retard, nothing really to it.

If you pick a door with a wrong prize, the other wrong prize door HAS to be opened.

If you pick the prize door, there are two possible doors Monty Hall can open.

I will find an explanation that makes sense to you, dammit.

How about this one?

You have three doors. There's a prize behind one of them, you don't know which. You pick one. You have a one in three chance of being right.

Now imagine he shows you what's behind the doors at this point. You will be right 1/3 of the time.

Now he asks you if you want to switch. 2/3 of the time that's the best thing to do, right?

Now if he doesn't actually show you which door is correct, it's still behind one of the doors you didn't pick 2/3 of the time. Remember there are still three doors. That leaves a one in three chance of being right. Now if he eliminates one of the doors, he's telling you which door is correct that 2/3 of the time that your first guess was wrong.
