How does one develop self awareness?

What good is it, this "self awareness?

Are people naturally or genetically endowed with self awareness?

Do some people have MORE of "IT" (self awareness).

Why do we seem to KILL or even MURDER self aware people?

Can we recognize people who seemingly are more aware?

C. Beck: I have learned that MOST of our behavior is automatic, therefore
subconsciously driven. (therefore by distortions of thought, self, & reality.
In a sense we are not AWAKE yet.
Both cognitive science/therapy & buddhism imply that we REALLY need to
wake up by being more aware of what we think, speak, act & desire.
In this way we discover the falsehoods within us as they really relate to
reality. I use as a metaphor the engine light in a car. If it is on, it implies an
INTERNAL problem. Also if we experience a "negative" emotion, there are
distortions and fallacies of thought & cognitive reasoning. I would
recommend "FEELING GOOD" by David Burns, 1980, to get into this
cognitive reality I am talking about. A goal is being more aware in both
cognitive science & buddhism, of our true subconscious, in doing this,
mental, emotional, & spiritual discipline we become more truly AWARE
of both ourselves and reality. We become AWAKE and reach heaven on
earth, nirvana, self actualization and bottom line REALLY more HAPPY
in this life!

With AWARENESS comes insight
With INSIGHT comes change.
With CHANGE comes growth!
With GROWTH comes self actualization!!!!

(C. Beck) you quoted me asking why we kill self aware people.
I suppose action based, self aware people see PEACE, not only of thought, but
living it. This means to me trying not to think, speak, or act negatively.
Examples we killed are Socrates, Gandhi, Jesus, & Martin Luther King Jr.
Why do we kill them.
I call it "cognitive dissonance". A certain sick person can't stand hearing TRUTH,
because it reveals their own shortcomings. The sick person feels they can
never reach the ideals set before them, so they kill the mirror of "truth.

Err, I think we're being a little too judgmental. I'm not justifying killings and murders but some may genuinely have different states of mind, different realities, different TRUTHS.

Truths are subjective, lightsun.
It's easy to blame a person and call him sick. It's more difficult to critically come to terms with the larger ideologies and dogmas that underlie people's actions.

Annabel-_ Lee.
I agree with you in principle, not to use labels, and too not be judgmental.
In my mind, to kill someone who has a peaceful message that you don't
agree with, is murder.
There is almost no justification! I must admit again, my passion.
I get angry. Now according to my philosophy, that implies an internal
problem, as well as external problem!
It is my engine light so to speak, telling me there is an internal problem!
I will freely admit it.
When I think if all these great men, if only they were allowed to live.
How much more peace we would have?
Ah ha, Annabel_Lee, we have hit the crux of the matter. You see I
desperately crave peace and happiness. You see Annabel_Lee,
I suffer from depression and fight every day. So yes it makes me cry,
and be angry that these great men were taken away!

Religious folks and toltalitarian-socialistic folks sought perfection and peace in the form of the end of history: heaven and utopia.

Their peaceful minded ways are responsible for most of the deaths of the last 1000 years in western civilizaiton.

"stuckasfook" I have always admittedly sought inner peace in the here and
now.
My trying the NON NEGATIVE ENERGY philosophy &
utilizing the principles of EMOTIONAL INTELLGENCE have
Increased my happiness and peace both to myself and
those around me.
I have also said to be "good" for the sake of being good.
Confucius said to be good in the here and now and heaven would take care
of itself.

Okay, this analogy is a little scary considering car accidents and running red lights. I don't think my priest wants me practicing Buddhism.

the problems arise from trying to control others
not respecting another's right to themself - to actually own/possess one's self-their own self
(and to direct-create-be their own life and it's journey/their own journey)
& not seeking the best ways to interact with others

be yourself as well as possible
if you are not injuring others
others should not be cocerned w/ your actions

be responsible for your actions
be responsible for yourself
others should do likewise
and discuss things
and so on
and live

and hopefully, learn to live together
with each other - or alone
as is needed - or seems best
what works best

find THE WAY
and be it
live it

Yes, I try to walk my path as peacefully and non negative energy as possible.
I use emotional intelligence as well as skills such as reflection and
listening skills.
Two wrongs don't make a right.
You would be surprised by how many situations I have de-escalated.
I have learned that life experiences are the best way to teach and
learn.
We greatly learn through observation, and intonation of voice.
Anyway I use reason and compassion with people. It has served me well.
