Wow, Lenka you know Carl Rogers, awesome.
Yes he definitely added a new tangent of thought and new direction in
psychology.
Even a paradigm shift.
Now all psychology majors have need to learn of him.
Hopefully, they will use some of what he taught in a holistic and caring
manner.

Carl R. Rogers "On Becoming a Person" (1961).
Carl R. Rogers "A Way of Being" (1980).

Yeah he was a humanist, psychologically-speaking. Focus on understanding the whole of a person and on giving unconditional support in therapy but no advise; as he was convinced that some people grow up without ever experiencing unconditional love and therefore always adapt their behaviour to gain approval; and that through providing them with this support, and yet giving them no chance for attempting to 'obey' the psychologist.... that this gives them the boost they need to build their own self-esteem.

BTH I'm full of doubt that that works. I think it's a part of what works; but more is needed. Some people need an extra push. I think counseling should on to of this also provide one with the bare-bones of their social role, and their practical options; not just unconditional love, which in practicality has no meaning alone.

In uni counseling, all I ever heard is that I should listen to my feelings more, which was sort-of stupid. i think she was trying to provide me with this unconditional-support-only, but it blew.

My counselor from school took 20 minutes off work to talk to me and after 20 minutes informed me that I should stop talking to my INFJ, and worry about my own life. She also told me I've never been motivated by threats, and that if i ever thought i could make it through a degree on fear-of-not-getting-a-job-later-if-I-flunk-out-now, then i was sadly mistaken, because that form of motivation doesn't work on me. Best advice I've been given all year. Totally against dear Carl Rogers's rules, because she helped me sort myself out a bit more.

I now have a coach who has so far proven most helpful when she told me that not all the things that go wrong in my communication with others are my fault. It was also helpful because she was speaking from experience, ie. our immediate situation. I assumed i've done something wrong because she frowned, and she proved me wrong about that.

I agree with you Lenka.
Rogers is just part of the equation.
I'm for sharing feelings of course and having those feelings validated.
This takes the listening skills of Rogers.

I also believe answers must ultimately come from inside the individual.
This utilizes the Socrates method of asking questions of a person so that a
person is empowered and actualize's.

Still more is needed I've said ether (1) problem solve or (2) refocus on what
one CAN do to gain a sense of "control".
Still more is learning our interpersonal and intrapersonal communication
styles and how these styles affect others. For this feedback is needed in
order to gain insight, modify one's behavior that is ineffectual and
maladjusted, grow and actualize.
Still another component is goal direction and having people help one
attain and achieve one's goals.
Then of course is seeing balance in one's life.
All of this is holistic and there are other pieces of the puzzle.

I am both intrigues and pleased by your mention of Socrates.

Yes, have you ever have some one tell you what to do or give you
advise what you SHOULD do.
Unless it fits your own INTERNAL universe it can almost go in one ear
& out the other.
In existentialism there is a term to get into one's phenomenological
universe to better understand and the help a client.
You remove yourself from your own ego and try to see reality through
their eyes.
A true guru or enlightened one knows the answers and leads the initiate
through a series of questions (like Socrates) until the client REALIZES the
truth or answers from within. This is empowerment.
The truth lays within all of us, but we need each other to bring it out.

Hi from me. I've done the test some years ago and my result was ENFP, but now I did it again and the result is INFP. I think it's right for me now. Maybe results change with the lifestyle. And I really have always been wondering, if I am Introvert or Extrovert.... I don't know. It's a mystery for me.

Hello Lenka.
What nationality are you, if I may so ask.
I'm part Puerto Rican & part Belorrussian.
Your name sounds slavic to me.
Also do you know many SF's & SP's on the forum.
Most seem to be NT & NF.
Just curious.

I'm Czech, so yes, slavic indeed.

yes, SPs and SJs aren't around much, it's assumed this is because stuff like this is too theoretical for their liking.

Your name reminds me of the main character in a children's novel, Star Girl. Smile (Brief description: "Susan "Stargirl" Caraway – The center of the story, a unique and nonconformist individual who turns Mica Area High School upside down.")

Which function do you prefer best if you had to choose one?

Introverted Feeling:

Quote:
It is often hard to assign words to the values used to make introverted Feeling judgments since they are often associated with images, feeling tones, and gut reactions more than words. As a cognitive process, it often serves as a filter for information that matches what is valued, wanted, or worth believing in. There can be a continual weighing of the situational worth or importance of everything and a patient balancing of the core issues of peace and conflict in life’s situations. We engage in the process of introverted Feeling when a value is compromised and we think, “Sometimes, some things just have to be said.” On the other hand, most of the time this process works “in private” and is expressed through actions. It helps us know when people are being fake or insincere or if they are basically good. It is like having an internal sense of the “essence” of a person or a project and reading fine distinctions among feeling tones.

Extroverted Intuition:

Quote:
Extraverted iNtuiting involves noticing hidden meanings and interpreting them, often entertaining a wealth of possible interpretations from just one idea or interpreting what someone’s behavior really means. It also involves seeing things “as if,” with various possible representations of reality. Using this process, we can juggle many different ideas, thoughts, beliefs, and meanings in our mind at once with the possibility that they are all true. This is like weaving themes and threads together. We don’t know the weave until a thought thread appears or is drawn out in the interaction of thoughts, often brought in from other contexts. Thus a strategy or concept often emerges from the here-and-now interactions, not appearing as a whole beforehand. Using this process we can really appreciate brainstorming and trust what emerges, enjoying imaginative play with scenarios and combining possibilities, using a kind of cross-contextual thinking. Extraverted iNtuiting also can involve catalyzing people and extemporaneously shaping situations, spreading an atmosphere of change through emergent leadership.
