Dear Abby.
I think my wife is cheating on me. I am a working musician and, as you would expect, travel a lot. I have been noticing strange things happening when I get home. Her mobile phone rings and she steps outside to answer it or she says, "I'll call you back later". When I ask her who called she gets evasive. Sometimes she goes out with friends but comes home late, getting dropped off around the corner and walking the rest of the way. I once picked up the extension while she was on the phone and she got very angry. A buddy of mine plays guitar in a band. He told me that my wife and some guy have been to his gigs. He wanted to borrow my guitar amp. That's when I got the idea to find out for myself what was really happening. I said "sure, you can use my amp but I want to hide behind it at the gig and see if she comes into the venue and who she comes in with". He agreed. Saturday night came and I slipped behind my Marshall JCM800 half stack to get a good view. I could feel the heat coming off the back of the amp. It was at that moment, crouching down behind the amp, that I noticed that one of the tubes was not glowing as bright as the other 3. Is this something I can fix myself or do need to take it to a technician?

Thanks,
Very Concerned.

I'm sorry to hear about your wife. That must be stressful! These types of problems occur often in marriage. I know that not all of them are the same, or as good as the ones you currently have, but you might be able to just get a new one if you are currently getting shit. It might be better to replace all of them at once. Just make sure it's the right size.

You know, it actually seems like it was supposed to be some inside humor for musicians and their spouses. I'm not so sure where this originated, but it could either have been written by some professional musician for the "Dear Abby" advice columnist as a joke or just some regular musician to poke fun at the typical letters people in their occupation write to the advice columns.

Well, I also think of music as an important part of life, and play the guitar myself.

I don't have any favorite scales. Or Chords. Or anything like that. Fuck that shit. It's all been done before and gets old real fast. I enjoy musical compositions that challenge the bounderies. I like music that is always changing, since I get bored with things quickly. Anyone who has been on the forum awhile probably knows that I like a band called The Mars Volta. One reason is that they share my belief in music alway changing, and have said, like I did, that they get bored with their music quickly. What they do is incorporate different styles and techniques all the time, so one of their songs can seem undistinguishable from another, even on the same album. This is what I respect and look for. I also like music that challenges itself. I like to see a lot of musicians playing a song, and seeing everyone of them go crazy with their parts, all at the same time. There are far too many bands now where you see a bass player, and a keyboardist, and a drummer, all pretty much emotionless, playing some simple thing over and over again. It gets really depressing.

With that said, I'd like to share an interview with the band. It's interesting (to me) since they not only talk about the music here, but also other things such as being vegan, and their views of religion (my favorite part is when they talk about the American political system; "If his (Bush's) very face doesn't make you vomit in disgust, then we don't know what to say." Laughing) It's on youtube, in two videos since it was too long to put as one;

Part 1
Part 2

Enjoy.

(If you wanna hear interesting music, just PM me and I'll send you some links).

Perhaps the wife, err, tubes are running a bit hot and need to be rebiased.

(Yofter, that bit had me laughing out loud at work. Thx for the joke!)

tubes wear at different speeds, so one of you tubes is probs just wearing out. if you loose volume and theres a loud click when turning on aoff its your power amp tubes, and if its a loss of distorsion and your distorsion sounds getting muddy its normaly your pre-amp. Anyways when one of these happen, just change em, personally I used groove tubes, more harmonics than other brands.

I consider myself an avid musician but I have yet to properly learn chord/scale notations.
I'll try to explain this by musical structure then -

What I think is best for generating the most basic form of a deep emotional landscape is two melodies working together. This could be one that conveys the metaphysical or spiritual aspect of a situation, with another that directly draws an interpersonal emotional reaction. You then have a melody to which your response can continually flow, and visa-versa. Of course though, this varies greatly. There are endless amounts of ways to play music.

Sometimes I enjoy Chopin binging.

I guess I could be primarily "situationalist", that is, I am most interested in music that draws from humanistic reactions to things. Other types could be extraterrestrial or mechanical, in which music is conveyed from the perception of a non-humanoid entity. This is especially apparent in songs like "Binary", by Hiromi Uehara (Japanese jazz pianist).

Less specifically, I love all types of music. Especially fond of melancholic tones though.

I have 3 guitars, two electric and one classical. I also have an electric piano I am teaching myself to play.

Nice!

It is sort of like that one Yoftermofter but it shows a guitar fretboard too.

Yoftermofter that link scares me. Shocked
