Hi Ian,

I was wondering that myself.
Have you taken the enneagram test?
I'd peg you for an enneagram 8.

By the way, ENTJs are frequently 8's.

Take the long version. (I took both long and short.)
Here's a link for you:

It was natural for me to organize meetings during the week to make sure things were going smooth with the lab reports, to make sure everyone had a role in completing the lab, and that too much "small talk" didn't pull us away from our objective for the day.

That's an ENTJ trait right there. Organizing groups of people.

It's not about organizing things, or data. It's about a group of people reaching a goal.
Unlike ENTJ, an ESTJ is more of an enforcer of current rules and regulations--making sure things are done "by the book."
A supervisor.

ENTJ's role is the head coach, and the whole team's goal is to carry that ball down the field into the end zone. (And win the Super Bowl.) Wink
It's all about action. Hence, it shouldn't surprise you if ENTJs are assertive people.

Quote:
It makes sense really, my dad is a marketing divison leader of a surgical instruments company, and his natural leader abilities and business-like work ethic were passed on to me.

That wouldn't surprise me. Leader begets leader.
In our house, I followed in my father's footsteps.

Quote:
I want to be the "boss"...but a friendly, approachable boss. Even though I am a T...I'm personable and friendly...I'm sure most of you knew that anyway.

Well that's good to hear. I don't care for tyrannical leaders.
By the way, being a T has nothing to do with how friendly someone is toward others.
Being a T is merely how your brain "cranks," so to speak.
Decisions are made objectively, rather than subjectively through feelings.

On a personal note, I have to tell you I laughed out loud when you were raging mad, in another thread.
Use that fiery passion of yours to empower people to reach a common goal, Ian.
You'll make a wonderful leader in business, if you do.

Go get em' Tiger! Very Happy

Hey Paradox. I appreciate the reply. I took the ennegram test thing and it came out to be:

You are most likely a type 1.

Taking wings into account, you seem to be a 8w7.

maybe you can give me some insight on what that translate into in terms of myers-briggs/jung.

Either ENTJ or ENTP for sure. And since you are "Mr. J out the A," ENTJ is my guess. Maybe I'm wrong, I'm not that familiar with the Enneagram.

I figured you'd be 8w7. So am I.

Another correlation with ENTJ is the result you will get from this test:
http://similarminds.com/bigfive.html

If your resulting score is either SCOEI or SLOEI, they frequently correlate with ENTJ.
Correlation statistics found here:
http://similarminds.com/global5/g5-jung.html

But all that testing aside, you should be able to read ENTJ,
and know if it's you.

Lots of links off this ENTJ page:
http://www.mypersonality.info/personality-types/entj/

If I can help you any further, just give a shout!

Just being scientific here...

I find this so fascinating......
Just because someone puts ENTJ in their signature line,
It makes me more inclined to treat them differently..

I don't know if it's a good thing or not.

Like... Ian, I honestly kinda just lightly paid attention to your posts...
But I had a decent idea of who you were.

Now, you put up ENTJ... and just slapping that personality type onto your signature line, changes my entire perception.

.. Just by reading those 4 letters.
Do I now know you better? Or, has my perception become skewed?

Probably both....
is it worth it...?
Maybe...

It causes more 'noise' in my big picture of trying to truly understand you...
But, it probably fills in some holes too...
So.... Whatever, I guess.. Just noticin' shit.

It makes me think, that personality type should be known, upon meeting someone for the first time, and only the first time, rather than later.

Unless it's way later, when you know them so well, that the 4 letters are meaningless, compared to your true understanding of them.
Then it's kinda "fun"..

haha, it's funny, people will have a different attitude towards him from now on (on this board), and all he really did was change one letter in his sig. It's just the way it is.

I was actually quite doubtful when he first came to the board, with INFJ in his sig. When he changed to INTJ i thought "that sounds better", but i think ENTJ is probably a better fit.

Yeah, cause a harsh talk from an INFJ means they HATE you, whereas from an ENTJ, it's par for the course. Laughing

Zillah, why yes I did! I Just did actually, and I must say that summed up a lot of me. I finally am clear about my work-ethic my family doesn't get - the fast moving, project-to-project worker who gets called mean because I'll tell them straight up if they're not helping by doing this or that. It all makes sense pretty much now, and ENTJ is the fit I've been looking for for a while. I'm not going to "live my life" according to the ENTJ style...but ENTJ is as close as you can get to my real personality. Did you type up that ENTJ profile by yourself? I googled ENTJ and didn't see it.

On a side note, I made my family laugh/roll their eyes at me last night combining my quest to be the best at everything (in job world) with my dry humor when we were watching this commercial with a bunch of guys in cubicles at an office. I said, "You know...that'll never be me. I'll never be 40+ and working in a cubicle. It's just not meant for me. I mean...sure, I'll work in one for....hmmmm 3 or 4 days I guess until I get promoted to boss and I'll say it was worthwhile. Other than that, forget it!"

My family thought it was funny but only because they thought I was dead serious...was I? In the back of my mind I thought it would be nice to bypass all the grunt labor...but I gotta do what I gotta do to get where I want to be in life right? Right.

Ian, yeah I typed it out from a book called The Art of Speedreading People, just for you Smile IMO the information in there is better than anything on the net.

I've said this before but I highly recommend the Barron Tieger books if anyone's looking to read more on MBTI. They are clear, thorough, and value each preference and type equally. The titles are -
The Art of Speedreading People (on typing others)
Do What You Are (careers)
Just Your Type (relationships)
Nurture by Nature (children).

I think there is something magic about the way everything falls into place when you get your type right. Or someone else's. It's like a whole new layer of the person becomes clear to you, like "yes, this is who I really am!" and you feel somehow seen and validated for the first time.

What is it that makes you think im ENTJ? Just curious really

that's funny; when i first posted my picture (in the phototyping one) no one guessed INTP.

well when i phototype people i do it really intuitively so it's hard for me to explain how i arrived at ENTJ. it's more by a certain "feeling" someone puts across to me. but if i had to be specific (this is just my theory)...you look very E__J from the pictures i've seen of you, in my opinion most E__J people look really "driven" if that makes sense, especially in pictures. if they pose for a picture, it was obviously their intention in that moment. I__P people look more passive, like "oh, a camera...i guess i'll smile". and the NT is in the eyes.

to continue that, though...I__J people have the J look but when they take a picture it looks like they're thinking "ok i'll humor this person taking the picture but i would rather be doing the other things i have to do"
and E__P people are like "Hey, we're taking pictures!! take one of me!!" (more so if they have F Smile

why do i seem INTP to you?
