It is more about appearances and ego fulfillment than it is about loving the other person. It is a preemptive jealousy, a possessiveness that imo has no place in a relationship between self actualized people.

So basically you are saying the same as me in the "love does not exist"-topic?

Well who said jealousy is a bad thing? I personally love jealousy. It's my second emotion. Anger then Jealousy. Wow, if Yoda is right I'm all set for the dark side.

Love does exist though.

It is the social rules and expectations that confuse.

Why is exclusivity and possesiveness the pinnacle of achievement?

because love should make you blind?

And I say should because I agree with you. Love DO exist people just dont know where to look for it, because they are too hung up social status and superficial things.

Yes, I did end up watching a movie recommended to me on this forum, Wings of Desire. There is a lot to it, since it was in German there were subtitles to I was able to pause it and write down some of the dialogue, it was a story of an angel (thankfully not presented in any religious context, but just as a learned, wise being on a non-physical plane of existence) that fell in love with a circus performer. The angel became a being of matter like us, and when the woman he fell in love with also fell in love with him she said "the story of a man and a woman, ours is the greatest story ever told".

And it is.

Later, at the end of the film, the angel reflects upon his experience:

Something happened.
It is still going on.
It binds me.
It was true at night, and it's true in the day.
Even more so now
Who was who?
I was in her and she was around me.
Who in the world can claim that he was ever together with another being?
I am together
No mortal child was begot...but an immortal, common image.
I learned astonishment that night.
She came to me to take me home.
And I found home.
It happened once...only once and therefore forever.
The picture that we have craeted will be with me when I die.
I will have lived within it
First the amazement about the two of us, amazement about man and woman...has made a human being of me.
I know now what no angel knows.

I wanted to share that, i thought it captured the timelessness of the universal love story. I am being quite sentimental today. <_<

Beautiful dialogue. I can relate this to my life very much right now.
