Someone who can come up with a radically new viewpoint. Or rather, someone who can make something new out of something old (it's harder then you think, as most thoughts you'd think are new are in fact old, perhaps even ancient)

According to an article i once read, a genius is someone who is both creative and intelligent.

Someone who acts on their own ideas, only to be persecuted throughout the endeavor by clods who are afraid to challenge the convention, and later is heralded by said clods once the latter actually realize their own faults (generally due to some measure of irrefutable empirical evidence).

A person who displays talent without any exertion, and is on a completely other level than most intellectually.

Usually though, geniuses (/genii? Razz) have one particular field they kick universal ass in, so much that everyone is baffled by how the hell they do that, and thus they are called geniuses. It doesn't apply to every skilled person though, it has to have something to do with intellect.

Personally I've only met one person in my life who I would call a genius.

So you wouldn't call Mozart a genius?
Or do you mean any activities in which one has to use his brain?
Personally, I think everyone who is supreme in an activity where one has to use his/her brain is a genius.
Therefore, in my honest opinion, DaVinci was just as much of a genius as Einstein.

Then again there are several ways in which a person can be intelligent, and therefore several fields in which one can be a genius. I think there's a lot more geniuses/genii (damn you!) than we know about, but most of them just never find their true potential. I like to blame the education system for this.

Richard Feynman's IQ was in the 120s, and he is known as one of the more brilliant physicists of the century, so I'm not sure how much weight you can put on tests. Plus, IQ only really tests logical and spatial intelligence, so relying on that would probably exempt most brilliant musicians, painters and writers.

Anyway, the best definition of "genius" is someone who is able to excel in a certain field at a far greater level than others, and able to master that field at an incredible rate.
