Do NOT remind me of that anymore. Sad I thought lots of nightmares and crying was enough for me. But no, you just had to rub it in...

OK honestly, we deserved to lose. God we were so bad, the Russians deserved to win big time. But I mean why, why now? Why after those other awesome matches... Sad

FOOTBALL. Not soccer, god I hate that name.

Anyways, have you ever seen more then one football match? And try to really understand it and open up to it? I think it's impossible for men to dislike the game. Razz Even women like it, it's so much fun and really exciting.

I use the word "soccer" for practical purposes, since we already have a different game called "football" in America, it's the easiest way to distingush between which sport we're talking about.

And of course I've seen "football" (Razz) matches before. I don't think it's weird for you to enjoy the game, I think it's weird to care so much about your team winning and to take the matches so seriously. I love baseball, but if my team doesn't win, big deal, it's not a serious concern to me. I was trying to ask why you care so much.

Well, how long is the soccer season? Baseball is 162 games, so if you lose one, lah dee dah. If you losing a game in the NFL could be difference between winning your division and playing golf in January.

Watch a game of real football, and you'll understand. Razz

Seriously though, every time I see soccer/football highlights, I can't help but consider it a game for wimps. Reason is, some guy's rushing down the field with the ball, he gets slide tackled and lays on the ground writhing in agony like he just shattered his leg in six places. What a crock. What kind of sport is it where falling to the ground and howling like sissy (when you're not even injured) is standard practice?

Want a real sport? Watch hockey. I can't even imagine what one of these soccer wimps would do if a guy like Chris Pronger merely glared at them. Very Happy

I can't get behind soccer, it's too damn boring. Is the American team in last place or something? They really should be, nobody cares about them. We should trade them for gasoline or something.

I was rooting for the dutch side too. I even had 4 dutch players in my euro fantasy team (a competition on the official site where you choose players for your team and get points depending on how they perform in the actual games) and not a single russian, and 4 was the maximum number of players from one country.
So if I don't win (an I won't), it will be because of them.
Van Basten and the Netherlands owe me a digital camera.

Thank you very much and see you around here. It's just weird that since I registered here I got busy all of sudden and barely have time just to check this thread, while I spent the few days before that in front of my pc.

People are just so passionate about it, and they hate losing. So they take it as a matter of pride, which gets pretty stupid at times. I'm sure there are fans of every sport (and not just sports) who are like that.
I love football as a sport, and it's one of the few things that gets me to show strong emotions.. yelling, jumping, cheering, cursing like a sailor, even punching the wall... (of course not always, just in really important games), but I accept it when my team loses, especially when they deserve it. But sometimes it's just frustrating.

Top clubs play about 80 game a season, I think. Season is normally from August to May, 2 games a week or so.

That's one of the worst things about Football. It's called "simulation" (or diving by fans). Simply, the player exaggerates a fall or fakes an injury (sometimes with no contact at all!) to get a free kick or a penalty, or to get an opposing player booked or sent off. Booing starts when diving happens (by fans of the other team) and normally, this is when i 'curse like a sailor'.
When referees don't buy it (rarely), the diver gets punished by a yellow card (2 yellows= sending off).
So it depends on the 'acting' talent of the player.

The American team is pretty good actually, far from the last place. It's among the top 20-30 I think.

But the top prize is a JVC Home Cinema system. I don't have one.
And all one has to do is to register and choose players.

Which players were in your dream team? Now that I think of it, I don't know which players I want. Well maybe Van der Sar. He's really good, did you see that Turkish goalkeeper did today (Germany - Turkey) see I don't want something like that going on. Laughing

No Russian players? Pavlyuchenko is really good though. Neutral
