It's kind've funny how we're under-estimated in certain aspects. Can be nice, though. Like when you do something seemingly out of character and it leaves people scratching their heads or in wonder, despite having it inside you all along.

exactly
Great advantage some times other times annoying disadvantage because people don't have confidence in you

It is ok if others don't have confidence in you, as long as you have it within. In fact, it's enrichening! Very Happy

Yeah especially when your team loses just because they refuse to take your answer no matter what. Great to be the only one with confidence in yourself

I love that dark horse aspect. It keeps me on my toes in a good way. A complacent ISTJ is a nasty pompous individual.

For sure, people always think I'm this distant, condescending turd. Then I open up to them and they're like, "wow, that's the nicest, most insightful thing anyone has ever said to me". Being an INFP male takes particular experience, for which there aren't alot of mentors. I don't think I've met another INFP male. Not one I connected with anyways. As a dude, you can't really be gushing, emotional or critically minded in normal social situations or people will tend to think you're a freak. So, a question how does one recognize other INFPs?

So pleased to see you here!!!!

I don't know how to recognise male INFPs. I think I may know one, a friend's husband. He's very kind.

My INFP former student complained that people often thought he was gay, though he was not. He was not gushing and emotional, and he was a fine scientist, but he was soft-spoken, clearly enjoyed his after-work recreations, and gave off what I can only describe as a very grounded, calming, peaceful impression.

I have a bee in my bonnet about how boys/men cop this sort of thing, and especially so if they are F or sensitive or whatever. The definition of a "real man" is very narrow - someone who performs, kills, wins, with no feeling, no vulnerability, no needs. Anyone outside this is "gay" or "a woman" or whatever. It's so destructive to men's ability to stay connected to their own internal life and healthy normal emotions. Sad

Yeah, but you can be secure in your gender but still realize that gender roles, in part, define our relationships with others.

Guys in our society tend to look for women who are "girlier" then they are though. That tends to be rather limiting for an INFP's options.

I've been married to an ESFP woman for five years. So far, so great. She's girly enough for me. But, she is certainly not a "girly" girl. Actually, I tend to be the one who wants to talk about things. And although she likes kids, she has a strong aversion to having any of her own. MBTI is great, but you can only generalize so far I guess.
