An internationally known Japanese author. He has written The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, Hard-boiled Wonderland and the End of the World, Kafka on the Shore, Norwegian wood, et cetera.
Have you read anything by him? If yes, then good!
If no, then run to Borders. (Or B&N, but I like Borders better.)
His stories are incredibly surreal; there are ideas of love, love lost, reality, and dreams. Usually his stories seem discombobulated and bizarre at the beginning, but by the end of the book there is an aesthetic intertwining of all the characters, plots, and ideas and suddenly everything makes sense.
(and by surreal I mean.. the main character finds himself sitting at the bottom of a dry well for three days and someone has shut the lid on him. After a while he starts to feel his body transfer through the wall of the well and he ends up in a dark hotel room...another world, shared within the consciousness of other characters)
It's wonderful.
I wonder.. if your favorite books are written by authors with the same personality type! |
