What are the distractions of life?
Distractions are things in life that occupy a lot of our time, but is not an
activity w here one achieves "a state of flow"
See Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. A state of flow is felt as "timelessness", and is
a bit of "heaven on earth". There are at least two components: when one's
ENDORPHINS are kicking in AND we "GROW" so as to actualize.
Hopefully we are pursuing our life's dream OR we are doing something
that brings us great joy as well as STIMULATES our minds.

Wow, right on target. I seem to speak the "metaphorical tongue". I am INFP. This
way of speaking can cause some people distress however!

Distractions can be termed "the illusions" of the world.
Illusions are also activities that could be deemed out of "balance".
Many of these are addictions of mind body and spirit: sex, exercise, drugs,
television, alcohol, shopping, video games, gambling, gossiping etc.
Now any of these that are not illegal and in moderation is fine. When it is
out of balance, not using and developing your natural "gift", not mentally
stimulating, and not part of a "growth" process, then it is both a distraction
and illusion.
We will come up with both "RATIONALI.ATIONS" and "DENIAL".
Often times it will either run out it's course, new role models and life heroes
help one to escape the quagmire, or family and friends put on pressure for
change.
Pursuing a state of FLOW, one has an ultimately far more rewarding life and
Is long term thinking.
Choosing the distractions is short sighted and ultimately a less fulfilling life.

Defense mechanisms are also distractions as well as distortions and thus illusions,
which keep us from truth, actualizing and being happy.

I don't know if everyone's experienced this phenomenon. It could also be
called a runners high.
It also is what the (psychologist) Maslow called "peak experiences" I can get it
running and feeling free, immortal, and young!
I can get it by writing and getting it In a rhythm and "flow". One can get it
feeling in love and can't wait to see and hear a beloved!
The point is the that it seems to be a human experience.
Generally it is very positive and creative.
It is what I pursue instead of the mind numbing triviality that the advertisers
want you to see and be almost hypnotized.
It is a choice. The point is that the is wonderful feeling is open to all of us
in different pursuits.
It is "heaven on earth".
It is the stuff of life itself.
Everyone has a choice to taste this wonderful nectar.

We were meant to experience FLOW, or at the very least it is in our DNA nature.
We were meant to feel "high" on life, or at the very least the opportunity
is there.
We have to get past the illusions, or the lesser things in life to both fully
experience it and live it.
With "negative" energy
one is off the path of flow.
One is out if "BALANCE".

For me, flow is more like when things are happening, falling into place. You see the opportunities coming because you are prepared for them, make the most of each one, and move on to the next in a succession that builds toward some greater goal. Or, you have a question, and in finding the answer, are led in turn to another question, and another answer, and so on, until after awhile you can look back and see what mountain of knowledge, or wisdom, or simply perspective you have just climbed.

Getting lost in something I really like is more like floating, or flying -- depending upon what it is.

It is achieving a higher sense and heightened capabilities.
