Distinct Traits Personality System

Temperate

Temperate describes someone who holds back from personal pleasures, especially those that feel excessive. People high in this trait deny themselves what seems overly indulgent and abstain from personal excess rather than taking an appetite to its limit. They often keep a tighter rein on comfort, food, spending, or other pleasures than the people around them. At its best, this trait can show up as self-command, moderation, and freedom from being led by every want.

At its extreme, it can become joylessness, harsh self-denial, or quiet disapproval of other people's ordinary enjoyment. A recognizable film example is Gandhi from Gandhi. He represents someone who keeps food, dress, and comfort plain on purpose. The restraint is a chosen way of living, and taken far enough it leaves very little room for indulgence of any kind.
