The MOTIVES personality system defines human personality into seven distinct and independent traits/drives, Materialistic, Offbeat, Thinking, Interpersonal, Vital, Easygong, and Sectarian. The Materialistic drive is about wanting to be more attractive/impressive than others. The Offbeat drive is about wanting to challenge/reinvent. The Thinking drive is about having a planning/organizing orientation. The Interpersonal drive is about putting the welfare/happiness of others first. The Vital drive is about being optimistic/happy. The Easygong drive is about wanting to keep things relaxed. The Sectarian drive is about wanting to prioritize the welfare of one's culture and/or country.
![]() The key above explains the significance of the color coding of posted Instagram items. Stronger (greener) positive associations means a person who scores higher on a particular MOTIVES type is more likely to self report higher that the posted item is an accurate description of them. Stronger (redder) negative associations means a person that scores higher on a particular MOTIVES type is more likely to self report lower (i.e. answer that the posted item is an inaccurate description of them). Each posted item shows the correlations for all seven MOTIVES traits.
